Mr. B’s put me on to the World Championship Punkin Chunkin Association, which has an annual competition. There’s a Discovery Channel program about it too.
Although my head-of-school is not partial to us throwing food around, a trebuchet would make a great project for physical sciences next year (Year B).
It is the boys’ dream to go there one year. On a note: AV built a lego model in year one that shot jelly beans and in year three built a 1:30 model out of red oak that shot an apple. There is some serious physics and woodcraft to build one of these bad boys. Just be aware of the materials costs before beginning. I can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Right now, I’m thinking that I’d like to start small. Balsa wood and some small woodworking tools might be enough to spark the imagination for the bigger project.
